Beautiful Maroon Cactus Silk (Sabra) Rug
This beautiful maroon rug features multicolored Amazigh symbols and designs that are sure to liven up any space.
Cactus silk (sabra) comes from the natural fibers of cacti. The cactus is grown in the Sahara and handwoven by Berber artisans in the Atlas Mountains.
These skilled artisans will take at least a week to weave this rug, a craft handed down from mother to daughter over many generations. Woven on upright wooden looms using hand-dyed yarn, this heavily textured rug features traditional, tribal symbols popular in their region. After weaving the rug is then washed and dried in the sun to achieve its unique, burnished character.
